sarva pindi- rice flour pancake

introduction

In Telangana, India, rice flour and peanuts are combined to make the savoury, circular pancake known as “Sarva pindi.” The product is referred to as “tappala Chekka” in the Warangal district and as “Sarva pindi” in Siddipet.

In Telugu, “pindi” signifies flour and “ganju” indicates utensil or round bowl. Thus, “Ganju Pindi” refers to rice flour that is prepared similarly to atta flour and sticks to a circular pan. The dish is called “ginnappa” in Warangal.

Origin

The Challa Anasuya house in the village of Bolle Pally, in the Warangal district, is the original source of the ginnappa (Sarva pindi) legend, making the village especially famous for it.

Many years ago, during the rainy season, Anasuya was always starving, but she also wanted a new recipe that used less oil. The Sarva pindi snack was created since, at the time, she only had rice flour in her home. In the Telangana district’s Bolle Pally village, she started selling some. Over time, Telangana witnessed a rise in popularity for the food.
